When you call, you’ll likely hear the friendly voice of Stephanie. But don’t be alarmed if Lisa picks up instead — she’s just as lovely. Jacob won’t answer – he’s too shy. Now, if Mark, Cristol, or Peter happen to answer… kindly remind them (on behalf of Stephanie and Lisa) that they are absolutely not supposed to be touching the phone.

FAQ

Are Chiropodists Covered by OHIP?

In Ontario, Chiropodists do not bill OHIP for the medical services they provide. Chiropody services are covered by most third party insurance providers, extended health care plans, Veterans’ Affairs, and/or can be used for income tax health deduction purposes.

Patients are advised to consult their insurance carrier regarding coverage and reimbursement prior to any appointment.  Our fee schedule is based on the guidelines set by our professional association. For your convenience, we accept cash, email transfer, debit, and most credit cards.

Can You Direct Bill to My Insurance Company?

We are thrilled to offer this convenience – Our clinic does offer direct billing to insurance companies.

However, there are some insurance companies that do not allow direct billing for chiropodists. Please bring all insurance information with you to your appointment and we can determine if your insurer permits direct billing by chiropodists.

Please note that our clinic does not offer direct billing through WSIB or motor vehicle accident programs.

Should I Go to My Family Doctor or Physician Instead?

Although your doctor may be able to address your concerns, Chiropodists have very specific and comprehensive training in all aspects of the foot and can offer more options for individualized and effective treatment plans. Many family doctors refer their patients to chiropodists for routine diabetic and geriatric foot care, surgical procedures, and the provision of custom made foot orthotics and orthopedic footwear. You do not require a referral from your family doctor to see a Chiropodist.

Do I Need an Appointment?

Yes, an appointment is required for all foot care services at The Foot Health Centre. This ensures that each patient receives the proper medical attention. During your initial examination, we will determine the exact nature of your issue. Through discussion, assessment, and accurate diagnosis, we will create a personalized management plan tailored to your needs. Our focus is on treating the root cause of your problem, as well as the symptoms, to prevent any recurrence of pain. To schedule an appointment, please contact our office, and our friendly staff will be happy to assist you in finding a convenient time.

Do I Need a Doctor’s Referral to See a Chiropodist?

No, a doctor’s referral is not required to make an appointment or for orthotic prescriptions with a chiropodist at The Foot Health Centre. Chiropodists are primary health care providers so just like a dentist would be your first choice for dental health, a Chiropodist is your first stop for foot care.

What Documentation Do You Offer for Custom Foot Orthotics to Meet My Insurance’s Stringent Criteria?

Upon prescription of custom orthotics by the chiropodist, you will receive comprehensive documentation during your fitting appointment when you collect your orthotics. This paperwork includes:

  • Date of examination
  • Date of dispensing/pick-up
  • Date of payment
  • Medical diagnosis
  • Materials used in orthotic fabrication
  • Casting technique employed
  • Gait analysis and biomechanical examination results
  • Name and address of the orthotics lab responsible for fabrication
  • Lab invoice
Do Chiropodists Do Pedicures?

No, chiropodists do not perform pedicures. Pedicures are considered a cosmetic and relaxation service. Chiropodists provide medical treatment of nail and skin concerns, including nail care, corns and calluses to promote healthy, pain-free feet. Seeing a chiropodist for your nail and skin care gives you confidence that your overall foot health will be addressed in a safe and clean environment using the highest level of infection control standards.

Will My Treatment Be Painful?

At The Foot Health Centre, we prioritize your comfort and well-being. Our team employs a variety of techniques and treatment methods designed to minimize any discomfort. While individual experiences may vary, the majority of our patients report little to no pain during their treatment. We are committed to ensuring that your visit is as pleasant and stress-free as possible.

Can a Chiropodist Prescribe Orthotics?

Yes, chiropodists are trained and qualified to prescribe orthotics. At The Foot Health Centre, our chiropodists can assess your foot health and biomechanics to determine if orthotics are suitable for you. If orthotics are recommended, our chiropodists can customize them to address your specific foot issues and provide ongoing care to ensure they continue to meet your needs. Orthotics prescribed by a chiropodist are designed to provide support, improve foot function, and alleviate discomfort, helping you maintain optimal foot health and mobility.

How Often Should I See a Chiropodist?

The frequency of visits to a chiropodist can vary depending on your individual needs and foot health concerns. For routine foot care, such as nail trimming and callus reduction, many people benefit from visiting a chiropodist every 6 to 8 weeks. However, if you have specific foot conditions such as diabetes or arthritis, more frequent visits may be recommended to monitor and manage your condition effectively. It’s best to consult with your chiropodist to determine the most appropriate schedule based on your foot health needs.
