It’s hard to believe that The Foot Health Centre has already been open for one month! We’ve had an incredible first month, and we’re excited to share the progress we’ve made and offer some valuable foot health tips for common issues we’ve seen at the clinic. Whether you’re a longtime patient or a new face, we’re grateful for the overwhelming support from our community here in Northumberland County and beyond.
A Warm Welcome from the Community
Since opening our new location at 161 William Street in Cobourg, Ontario, we’ve been thrilled by the outpouring of love and support from both our loyal patients and the many new faces we’ve had the pleasure of meeting. We knew many of our existing patients would follow us, but the number of new patients walking through our doors has exceeded all expectations. It’s been a joy to see how much everyone loves our beautifully designed space and to hear the “oohs and ahhs” as they experience it for the first time. 😊
With 26 years of providing exceptional foot care to residents of Northumberland County, we’re excited to continue this journey and expand our reach even further. Our dynamic team is dedicated to helping you stay active, pain-free, and enjoying life to the fullest.
Common Foot Health Issues and Shoe Lacing Tips
At The Foot Health Centre, we’ve seen a variety of foot health concerns over the past month. One of the easiest ways to improve foot comfort is by adjusting how you lace your shoes. Here are some shoe lacing techniques for common issues we’ve encountered at the clinic:
1. Heel Slippage
If your heels slip out of your shoes, it can be frustrating and uncomfortable. The Runner’s Loop technique can help keep your heel secure:
- Lace your shoes as usual until the top two eyelets.
- Then, thread the lace through the top hole on the same side to create a loop.
- Cross the laces, pull them through the loops, and tighten to lock your heel in place.
2. Toe Pain
For patients experiencing pain in the toes, reducing pressure on the forefoot is key. Try Wide Forefoot Lacing:
- Lace normally but skip the first few eyelets near your toes.
- This allows for more room in the toe box and reduces discomfort.
3. High Arches
Shoes that feel too tight across the top of the foot can cause discomfort for those with high arches. Parallel Lacing can reduce this pressure:
- Instead of crisscrossing the laces, lace them straight across the shoe by skipping alternate eyelets.
- This creates more space on the top of your foot, reducing tightness.
4. Narrow Feet
If you have narrow feet and your shoes feel too loose, the Tight Fit Lacing technique can provide a more snug fit:
- Lace through every eyelet and pull the laces tighter than usual.
- This will secure your foot without causing pain or discomfort.
